Trezor.io/Start® | Starting Up Your Device | Trezor.io

To get started with your Trezor device, follow this detailed guide. The Trezor hardware wallet is one of the most secure ways to store your cryptocurrencies, and setting it up is a straightforward process. Here’s everything you need to know to begin.

Step 1: Unboxing and Inspection

When you receive your Trezor device, carefully unbox it. Inside the package, you should find the Trezor device, a USB cable, recovery seed cards, and an instruction manual. It’s crucial to ensure that the security seal on the box is intact. If you notice any tampering, do not use the device and contact Trezor support immediately.

Step 2: Visit Trezor.io/Start

To start setting up your device, visit Trezor.io/Start. This official website will guide you through the process, ensuring that you are using the most recent and secure instructions. On this page, you'll find options to download the Trezor Bridge or Trezor Suite, which are necessary for managing your device.

Step 3: Install Trezor Suite

The Trezor Suite is the all-in-one platform for managing your cryptocurrencies with your Trezor device. It’s available for both desktop and web browsers. The Suite provides access to your accounts, facilitates transactions, and enhances security features. Download the latest version of the Trezor Suite from the official website and follow the installation instructions for your operating system.

Step 4: Connect Your Device

After installing Trezor Suite, connect your Trezor device to your computer using the provided USB cable. Once connected, Trezor Suite should automatically detect your device. If it doesn’t, ensure that the Trezor Bridge is installed correctly, as this software enables communication between your Trezor and your computer.

Step 5: Initialize Your Trezor

With your device connected, the Trezor Suite will prompt you to initialize your device. You can choose between two options: creating a new wallet or recovering an existing wallet using a recovery seed. For new users, select the option to create a new wallet.

Step 6: Firmware Update

Before proceeding, the Trezor Suite may prompt you to update the firmware on your device. This step is crucial for ensuring the latest security updates and features. Follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware. Do not disconnect the device during this process.

Step 7: Set Up a PIN

Once the firmware is up to date, you will be prompted to set up a PIN for your Trezor device. This PIN adds an additional layer of security, ensuring that only you can access your wallet. Choose a PIN that is both strong and memorable, as you will need it every time you connect your Trezor.

Step 8: Backup Your Recovery Seed

The most critical step in setting up your Trezor device is backing up your recovery seed. The recovery seed is a list of 12, 18, or 24 words generated by your Trezor. This seed is your backup in case your device is lost, stolen, or damaged. Write down the words in the exact order provided on the recovery seed cards included in your Trezor package. Store this card in a secure and private location—never share your recovery seed with anyone or store it digitally.
